About Phoenix West

A consulting firm built on a simple idea: financial advice works better when it isn't fragmented.

Our story

We kept opening the same file.

Phoenix West Consulting Group Ltd. was founded in 2026 in Vancouver, British Columbia, by Askar Hajipoor and Harry Hajipoor — a father and son who kept running into the same frustration in almost every file they opened. Good people with good intentions, holding a collection of financial products that were each sold in isolation and never designed to work together.

A life insurance policy bought a decade ago and never revisited. An RRSP contribution that pushed a refund up this year but will cause a problem later. A small business with three years of receipts in a shoebox and no idea whether it was actually profitable.

None of that comes from carelessness. It comes from a system where every financial service lives in its own silo, and no one is responsible for the whole picture.

We built Phoenix West to be that responsible party.

What we believe

Five commitments we can be held to.

Advice should be understandable.

If we can't explain a recommendation in language you'd use with a friend, the recommendation isn't ready.

The whole picture beats the best single product.

An excellent investment inside a badly structured plan is still a badly structured plan.

No pressure, ever.

We'd rather lose a sale than place a product someone doesn't understand or genuinely need.

Access shouldn't depend on language.

Financial literacy is hard to build in a second language. We serve clients in English and Farsi so nothing gets lost in translation.

Long-term over transactional.

We measure success by how long clients stay, not by how fast they sign.

The founders

A father and son, on the same file.

Phoenix West was founded by a father and a son, a combination that suits this work better than it sounds. One brings decades of lived experience with how financial decisions play out over a lifetime. The other brings current licensing, modern systems and fluency in the Canadian rules as they stand today. Clients get both perspectives on the same file.

Askar Hajipoor, PhD

Co-Founder, Senior Manager & Advisor

Askar Hajipoor holds a PhD in Private Law and serves as Senior Manager and Advisor at Phoenix West Consulting Group.

He leads the firm's business consulting and company registration work: choosing a structure, setting up share classes, reading what an agreement actually says before anyone signs it, and working out where the risk sits in a transaction that looks straightforward.

A doctorate in private law is an unusual thing to find in financial consulting, and it shows in the details rather than in the headline. Share structure is the part of an incorporation most often rushed. Getting it right at the start costs nothing extra, and changing it later takes a reorganisation and professional fees. A purchase agreement contains terms that matter more than the price does.

He is not called to a bar in Canada. Phoenix West does not draft shareholder agreements or purchase and sale agreements, and does not give legal opinions; that work is referred to a lawyer. What the background provides is judgement about structure, and a clear sense of which questions are worth putting to a lawyer before you are paying one by the hour.

He built the firm with his son, and works with clients in Farsi and English.

Harry Hajipoor

Co-Founder

Harry Hajipoor co-founded Phoenix West and handles the protection and savings side of the practice: insurance, investments, registered accounts, and personal tax preparation and planning.

Most of what he corrects turns out to be a sequencing problem rather than a product problem. An RRSP contribution made in the wrong year. A TFSA holding nothing but cash. Coverage bought against obligations that have since changed and never been revisited. The work is less about finding a better product than about putting the pieces in an order that holds together.

He works in Farsi as well as English. Someone making the largest financial decisions of their life in a second language usually has nobody who can explain a T1, or a contribution limit, or what a segregated fund guarantee actually covers, in the language they think in. Closing that gap is a large part of why the firm exists.

Looking ahead

What we are building next.

Phoenix West is built to grow with our clients. Over the coming years we plan to expand into real estate services and immigration consulting, so that the two decisions that most define a newcomer's financial life — where you live and how you stay — are supported by the same team that handles your money.

Those services aren't available yet. When they are, you'll hear about it here first.

Have questions? That's the whole point.

The first meeting is free, takes about thirty minutes, and comes with no obligation of any kind.
